Go to consultation pageA private mammogram is a simple and affordable way to get peace of mind, or detect early signs of breast cancer before any symptoms are visible. Yearly breast screenings can't prevent cancer, but they can open the door to faster treatment and better outcomes if an anomaly is found.
Start having routine mammograms 10 years earlier and more regularly than on the NHS, with no waiting lists.
If you are over 40, not pregnant or nursing, and have no breast cancer symptoms, you can book your own mammogram every year.
Easy online booking, where you're free to choose the best options for you.
Dedicated care from expert mammographers and breast health specialists.
Private breast screenings in the UK are available from the age of 40. This is ten years earlier than routine NHS mammograms start (from age 50). The sooner anomalies are found, the better the opportunities are for treatment, which is why private early screenings can be beneficial. If you notice symptoms of breast cancer, such as a lump, it is important to see your GP as soon as possible and not wait for a routine screening appointment.
You can have a private breast screening once every 12 months. This limit is in place due to the potential risks of repeated X-Ray exposure. The scans are safe to undergo privately on a yearly basis, meanwhile, the NHS ofers routine mammograms every three years.
Mammograms are non-invasive procedures, and many people do not find them painful. However, depending on your breast size and timing of the scan in relation to your menstrual cycle, you may find it uncomfortable or painful. The scan is quick to complete, and any discomfort should subside shortly afterwards, but you should tell your mammographer if you experience pain during the scan.
The NHS gives an estimated 2-3 week wait for routine mammogram results. With Scan.com, you're free to choose when you have your mammogram and will receive your results quickly, including a written report of the findings verified by two independent radiologists.
Being recalled after a mammogram can be worrying, but it does not necessarily mean a serious issue has been found. Only 4% of women are called back after a mammogram, and many of them will not have breast cancer. Your specialist might recall you if the first scan wasn't clear, or to recommend further tests if an issue has been found. It is worth noting that not all anomalies are cancerous, and less than 1% of all mammograms result in a breast cancer diagnosis.
When you book a private Mammogram with Scan.com, you'll receive a full, end-to-end package of care, starting from just £395.
Our scan costs vary depending on the pricing set by the individual scanning centres.

A key benefit of booking with Scan.com is that you do not need a GP referral to access our services. Just fill in our simple online booking form, and we’ll pass your referral to your selected scanning centre, with no GP referral needed.
If your results are normal, we’ll email you a copy of your report and you can rebook in 12 months. If an anomaly is found, you’ll receive your results directly from the scanning centre, and their breast clinical nurse specialist will explain the next steps.
This may include a re-scan or further tests, and you will be offered a choice of private care via the scanning centre, or to return to your usual GP for onward referral to the NHS breast clinic, which can take up to two weeks. No matter which route you choose, the scanning centre will contact you again after 30 days to ensure you are receiving the correct care.
Your entire mammogram appointment should not take longer than 30 minutes to complete.
On the day of your scan, you can eat, drink and take your medication as normal. Please don’t use a spray deodorant or talcum powder in the days leading up to your scan as this might show up on your mammogram. A roll-on deodorant can be used. During your breast screening, you’ll need to undress down to your waist. To make this easier and more comfortable for you, we recommend wearing a top with a skirt or trousers, rather than a dress or jumpsuit.
